I have an unhealthy obsession with scatter terrain and accessories. I can never have enough and always want more, as you can see in the photo above. Clearly I went way overboard with everything lol! I even picked up some of the new pre-painted 4D Wizkids sets that I found for 50% off.
There is just way too much stuff to bother with individual photos, so I'll just show some of my favorite ones. The bunk beds behind the cage are from the castle barracks pre-painted set and are really nice.
The bulk of the items are all from $125.00 in store credit I had at one of the local game stores. I used all of it to buy a bunch of the "primed and ready to paint" Wizkids Dungeons and Dragons accessory pieces from their Deep Cuts and Nolzur's lines.
I blew through pretty much all of it thanks to Citadel's new contrast paints. If you have anything that needs painted in a wood color I highly recommend the Snake Bite Leather and Gore-Grunta Fur - the stuff is absolutely amazing, especially the Snake Bite Leather!
The same goes with any type of stone work you may be doing. Highly recommend both Space Wolves Grey and Basilicanum Grey. This stuff takes absolutely no time to do and the results are pretty astounding in my opinion. My only tip is to just do one coat, don't even try to do multiple passes on an area - just get it evenly covered and you're done. Less is more and definitely don't over think it!
I also made up this fun Ark of the Covenant set from 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'. The shipping crate is from a 4Ground box I modified a little, and the Ark itself was a stretch goal from Crooked Dice's last pulp Kickstarter. In hindsight I should have built the crate so the bottom was removable as the Ark is the perfect size to fit in there.
I also made up these books to kind of look like the books the story of three knights was in from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - the books that were in Walter Donovan's office. Forgot to add a red ribbon book mark though.
I know the contrast paints get a lot of hate, but they absolutely have their uses as you can see in all the photos, but especially above here. That green is just perfect 😃

Much appreciated! Yeah, I added everything to the Ark crate - I spent WAY too long online searching for an image of it, finally found one I liked then brought it into Photoshop to make the necessary adjustments to make it fit the space 🙂

DeleteIvor I presume you give the decals you print a layer of gloss varnish, but how much?
DeleteActually on the book page decals I used Mod Podge on both the front and back to glue it down - the Mod Podge gave the pages a shiney look I wanted. For the crate decal I just used regular pva (white glue) on the front and back to seal it.
DeleteHonestly, every decal I print is different in how I do it, all depends on what it's going on, what it is, what it's made out of, etc. I have used a matte varnish spray before, usually only like two quick passes though. Because of the weather nowadays and not wanting to walk everything out to the shop by the barn I've been using Vallejo matte varnish from the bottle a lot and just brushing it on.
The reason I ask is that its said that one should give the printed decal paper a coat of gloss varnish or the ink will be washed of.
DeleteThe spray varnish is definitely a popular way to seal decals, I also use Microscale's Micro Set and Micro Sol when applying water slide decals. Lots of different ways to attack sealing decals 🙂
DeleteI wonder if we are talking about the same things, I meant when you have printed the decals on decal paper one have to give it a sealer so when the decal paper is put into water the print won't get wet and wash of, I might be misunderstanding or something I'm not sure, I just want to be sure I got it right :)
DeleteGotcha, yeah seems we got lost in translation a bit. All the decals I do myself on my computer I just use regular printer paper, I don't use decal water slide paper - though I do have some, just haven't used it since the regular paper works so well for me 🙂
DeleteTo your question though I do seem remember that varnishing water slide decals is what you should do before putting it in the water so that the colours don't run.
Okay, I just thought the one on the said of the crate was a water slide decal.

DeleteI think the last actual water slide decals I did would have been some Matchbox jeeps I converted for my 82nd Airborne army a few years ago. But those decals were store bought, I didn't print them out myself.
Got it, I have been thinking of making some water slide decals for tattoos for my gangers and some decals for some diecast cars I want to repaint.

DeleteIs the GGF paint the one you did the barrel in the 4th picture and the Snakebite Leather the bag in the same picture. I got both.
Lol! The barrel was definitely Snake Bite Leather, the leather bag I'm fairly certain was Snake Bite too. The Gor Grunta I don't see a good example in any of my close up photos - it's a darker brown. I think an example may be that chest in the 5th photo. Apologies I can't remember which paint was used on what, I definitely used Snake Bite the most though 🙂
