These first three are from Crooked Dice and are definitely modeled after Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom - though I don't recall a throwing star Thuggee in the movie. But the figure with the rope is brilliant :)
This figure is easily my favorite, the giant muscle bound Thuggee. And some useless information for the day - in the film he was played by Pat Roach, who also played the giant muscle bound German mechanic in Raiders of the Lost Ark. He also played the giant muscle bound thug in the James Bond film Never Say Never Again, eventually being taken out by Sean Connery's urine sample :) Good thing he wasn't type cast or anything.
You can see how much he towers over Indiana Jones. Indy is from Blue Moon, I've had him painted for years now but made the switch over to a clear base.
These miniatures are from Artizan, a pack I found on clearance at Historicon some years ago.
Like Indy, the Crooked Dice figures tower over the Artizan figures.
I'm finally chugging along getting painted figures based so they can be officially be checked off as completed. More movie and TV figures to come :)
*and if anyone knows of a suitable Short Round figure, please let me know!*
As always, thanks for looking!
Ivor
Great looking minis.
ReplyDeletePat Roach was also killed by Arnie at least twice in the Conan series of films!
Thanks a lot! I did not know that, and that certainly falls right into character for him :)
DeleteNice collection there Ivor & as you know I'm a believer in clear bases, been type cast is no bad thing as there always a need for a big muscle guy to be killed by the hero in movies I'll have to get one myself. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Frank! I'm right there with you on the clear bases, it's going to be a project to re-base all my old figures but it'll be worth it I think :) Can't recommend the CD figures enough, lots of great Hollywood baddies!
DeleteTerrific posting, Ivor, and wonderful painting. Nice group of minis from different manufacturers, but your excellent paint-jobs really bring them together. Top stuff :-)
ReplyDeleteCheers! Credit for the brushwork on the Thuggee's goes to my friend Arthur though :) I was only responsible for Indy, but we do have similar styles.
DeleteExcellent work. Didn't know that about the movies ... neato!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jay! Roach was also credited as being in Last Crusade too, but I haven't been able to spot him.
DeleteI know it might sound a bit odd but if you are looking for a Short Round figure have a look at the Glenn model in The Walking Dead All Out War. Nice work BTW.
ReplyDeleteThanks Fred! I just took a look at Glenn and you're right he'd be perfect, the only problem is when I put him next to Indy he is bigger than him! If I could shrink Glenn down I think we'd have a winner :)
DeleteBrill job on them all and rebasing your Indiana. Interesting movie info I love both but Bond is my favourite character and will sit and watch most of the movies where as Indiana is more of an occasional thing. The Cloaked rifleman will make a good stand in for the Shiva sniper Marut
ReplyDeleteThanks Simon! Hopefully you've gotten a look at the Crooked Dice line of "not" James Bond figures, they are absolutely outstanding - I have a whole bunch I posted up about six months or so ago if not. Highly recommended!
DeleteExcellent work on the cultists and Indy - cracking stuff. :)
ReplyDeleteMuch appreciated! Hopefully they can see a game sometime in the new year :)
DeleteThey look great - I might have to have a look at Blue Moon :/
ReplyDeleteThanks Mike! Blue Moon is definitely an underrated manufacturer, I have pretty much their entire line of Old West figures and they are fantastic - a bit on the small side when compared to other manufacturers but still great models (especially if you have the Old Glory membership that gets you 40% off!)
Delete*apologies, I hate when I think I'm hitting "reply" and it ends up as a new comment instead*
Looking good! I'm sure they'll make an interesting gang to play.
ReplyDeleteMuch appreciated Bill! Fingers crossed they get on the table :)
